Our mission is to enable a brighter future for everyone in Canada through access to post-secondary education.
The education gap in Canada
Post-secondary education is critical in breaking the cycle of generational poverty. Canadians with a post-secondary education earn 15-62% more in income than their peers without.
But access to education is largely dependent on family wealth. Only 40% of families in the bottom 20% in Canada have savings set aside for post-secondary studies, compared to 83% of families in the top 20%.
Absolutely free - The Canadian government gives $500-$2,000 per child to help families save for post-secondary education.
Low barrier - No personal contributions to an RESP are required to receive CLB, and receiving CLB won't impact any other benefits your child or family receives.
Widely available - If your child was born on or after January 1, 2004, has a valid Social Insurance Number, and receives the Canada Child Benefit, they’re eligible for CLB.
Here’s how we help
Over two billion dollars in CLB benefits are left unclaimed every year. More than 2.2 million eligible children in Canada have not applied for the Canada Learning Bond.
Wealthsimple Foundation is working with forward-thinking organizations to reach CLB-eligible families across Canada and help them save for their child’s education.
By partnering with Wealthsimple, Canada’s leading financial technology company, we provide a free, easy-to-use and 100% digital RESP platform to help families to apply for and receive the Canada Learning Bond. Canadians can also open an RESP anywhere by calling their bank.
So far, we have helped over 2,700 kids receive over $2.2 million in Canada Learning Bond.
